Tearing of hair!
Gnashing of teeth!
Aargh!
When was the last time you tried to draw someone in your life as a cartoon character? Not a true caricature, but just a reasonable likeness?
Frustrating isn’t it?
Drawing People as Cartoons Is A Lifetime Study
I truly believe that. I’m the first to admit that I am no expert and the caricaturists I have met and admire have been at it for a long time. Many of them studied fine art and portraiture at some point as well.
Bah! What’s a girl to do?
Those of you who know me well, know that I am a red-hot researcher.
A gob-smacking Google’r.
A seeker of solutions.
No surprise then that I have tracked down some principles that I use (and you can, too — I’m generous that way) to get you cracking with drawing people as cartoons for yourself.
As has become customary, there is a video. And some of you may even recognise the ‘victims’ I selected for today’s episode!
How to Get the Most out of this Video
Draw along!
Find a pencil and paper, right now.
Watch the video all the way through once (it’s only 5 1/2 minutes ? )
Watch it again one section at a time and draw the faces yourself.
Bonus activity:
Ask any questions you have down below.
Then draw yourself from a Facebook profile photo, take a photo of your work and mail it to me (sign up on the home page to get my contact details). I’d be delighted to give you some feedback.
