Cartoon face expressions — drawing the basics is simple enough, but you may be itching to step things up to the next level.
Bye-bye beauty = hello reality for cartoon face expressions
While ideas of traditional beauty revolve around how the symmetry of facial features, the opposite is true when it comes to dynamic cartoon face expressions.
A-symmetry is key to bring dynamism and a real-life quality to the expressions on your cartoon characters.
Da Vinci Cartooning Course sells out every June!
Here’s what Lela (Alumnus from 2015) had to say:
When I first started posting circles, no one understood
But as the circles became animals, and then recognizable cartoon characters, many of my friends were amazed.
I wasn’t really afraid of the assignments
But I recognized that regular daily practice was required so it was a challenge to stay on top of them. During my best week’s I got ahead of the assignments by drawing on Sunday nights which gave me an extra day to play with.
Being a part of a group was a better experience than I anticipated
Over time we have watched each other’s growth and development as well as watched our characters take shape. I feel as though I got to know several people through their art and shared trials and errors. I appreciated that others also took time to regularly provide encouragement and feedback.
Alison conducts the course in a very thoughtful manner
She’s encouraging and provides just the right amount of input to take you to the next level. She’s great at referring us to each other when we’re struggling and providing additional resources to get us over hurdles.
I would recommend this course to friends who want to learn to draw
The price of the course tends to make me only recommend it to people who are really serious about learning. It’s an investment of time, energy and money and not just fun that they see on Facebook.

Lela really enjoyed working on Snoopy early on in the course:
Then she created her own character the easygoing, peace-loving Imani who only gets angry if you refuse to use recyclable water bottles!
